Suicides are not at all uncommon to us. Recently, Ilocos Norte surveyed a rise of suicides in the province among young teens and the older population. The reasons vary – from love deficit and triangles, terminal illness, overwhelming debts, and many more unexplained causes. All these boils down to hopelessness and despair where no form of mental, physical or spiritual support is available. This indeed jolts our very rationale with grief and sorrow. Families and friends whose loved ones have committed suicides are greatly affected with guilt because they were not there in time of need.
Life is a gift from God. He is the author and finisher of humanity. Everything has its time, a time to be born and a time to die (Ecclesiastes 3:2),. In God’s time table, time is not just a chronological factor, but refers to events or occasions, understood as “Kairos”. He engineers everything for our good, because He is the heavenly Father who loves mankind. He sacrificed his only Son for our well being to give us a future and a hope. Jesus governs our purposes in living. In finding His purpose for life, we harness security, health, joy and peace. Hope in Christ never fails. He promises that when we seek Him, He will be there to meet us. If we do not embrace His blueprint, we will only encounter strife, disillusions and frustrations. Godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Tim 6:6) and only in Christ can we find personal satisfaction.
Sadly, materialism is perennial in our genetic code. We struggle for “quick rich fixes” to attain “self made icons” only to be filled with emptiness in our souls. Happiness is beyond worldly pleasure. Lives are to be purposeful, living for a cause more for others, than ourselves. When Jesus becomes the Master Designer, we will be truly blessed. His love is unconditional. The world is filled with empty promises without any guarantees. Jesus Christ is the ultimate Saviour in our sicknesses, rejections, disappointments and failures. We can be reassured when we call on Him in times of our need.
